Cupid’s Creative Date Ideas
By Jeff Cohen, freelance writer (cohenwriting@aol.com)
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the pressure is on to come up with a great date idea. While dinner and a movie is always a tried and true route, sometimes it’s fun to venture out into new territories. Whether you’re looking for a fresh idea for Valentine’s Day or just any other Friday night, these tips should inspire your creativity and help lead you in the right direction.
Cooking Class
Just for fun, you and your partner could sign up for a cooking class at your local community school. Just the sight of your sweetie in a goofy apron should be all it takes to get you ready for a fun afternoon. Pay attention to the other person and you’ll probably see a whole new side of each other. Keep the mood playful and light and don’t take yourselves too seriously. The best part is that not only will you have fun, but you’ll both walk away with a brand new skill. When you get home from the class, you can put your newfound skills to work by preparing a gourmet meal.
Afternoon at the Zoo
Who said the zoo was just for little kids? With the right frame of mind, you and your date could spend a fun and inexpensive afternoon with furry friends. While you’re at the zoo, let your inner child loose as you make silly faces at the monkeys. Visit the giraffes and marvel at the wonder of how they sleep at night. Treat your sweetie to a much deserved double scoop ice cream cone and you’ll both feel like kids again.
Explore Your City
Most people don’t take the time to explore their own surroundings. There are sure to be some very cool attractions right under your nose. Even if you live in New York, chances are you’ve never been to any of the official tourist spots. Spend an afternoon checking out the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building. If there’s time, you might even try and squeeze in a few laps around the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center. If you don’t live in or around a big city, you could still explore the sights of your own hometown. The local museum or downtown historic parks are both good places to start.
Visit a Psychic
Even if you don’t actually believe in the ability of a psychic to tell the future, visiting one could still make for an interesting date. Listen carefully as she rubs her crystal ball and comes up with all sorts of musings on life and what the future might hold for the two of you. Chances are good that she’ll say the future looks bright for you and your sweetie. Maybe you’ll hear some unexpected good news that one of you will be coming into a large sum of money soon. It’s always best not to tempt fate, so just to be safe, make sure that you pick up a couple of lottery tickets on the way home.
