When Ashton and Demi started dating in 2003, people were quick to label the relationship a big publicity stunt. With a 15 year age difference, it seemed unlikely to last. She was a 40 year old divorced mother of three and he was a 25 year old rising sitcom star. Not only did this couple prove the critics wrong, but they actually seem to have it figured out. When it comes to building the foundation for a healthy and loving relationship, these two definitely have the formula.

Despite the obvious age gap, they seem to get along quite well. They clearly support each other’s interests, including the study of the mystical Kabbalah. Demi’s three daughters, Rumour, Scout, and Tallulah even affectionately refer to Ashton by the name MOD, short for “my other dad”. Amazingly, he even maintains a friendly rapport with Demi’s ex-husband Bruce Willis.

Age truly is simply mind over matter. If the people involved in the relationship don’t mind, then it really shouldn’t matter. Whether it’s a five or 25 year age difference, if two people are committed to making it work, then they have just as much chance of success as the next couple. Back in the day when Brooke was still married to tennis star Andre Agassi, people said it would never work. Unfortunately, they turned out to be right about that. She managed to do that with the help of Chris Henchy, a successful sitcom writer in Hollywood. They married, had a baby girl named Rowan, and are expecting their second child next year.

Just when Brooke thought her world was over, she stumbled upon a really great guy who embodied all the qualities that she’d been looking for. Even though her first marriage to Andre Agassi didn’t work out, she still chose to give it another shot. Don’t allow yourself to become jaded to the idea of a second or even third marriage if that’s what it takes. You’ve heard the saying “third times a charm.” Hey, it worked for Jennifer Lopez!

Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin

Gwyneth’s dating history includes an engagement to Brad Pitt and a yearlong romance with Ben Affleck. Both men were definitely considered hot in Hollywood at the time that she was with them. It obviously came as a surprise to most people when she hooked up with Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin. It wasn’t just the goofy rock star/gorgeous actress factor that threw people for a loop. It was the fact that Gwyneth epitomized the role of a typical New York City woman. She was so head over heels for Chris that she found herself constantly jetting back and forth between London and New York. The pair eventually married, had a baby girl named Apple and are expecting their second child early next year. They also quietly settled into their lives in London, England. Gwyneth has said that it took some getting used to, but she now considers London her home.

Don’t be afraid to venture out to another part of the United States or even out of the country for that matter. Sometimes you have to follow your heart no matter where it leads you. Your new surroundings may feel strange at first, but you’ll eventually adapt. With your honey by your side, the sun will always be shining on you…even in chilly Alaska!
