Heard in Hollywood--Christian Louboutin
By: Jasmin Bryant
Move over Manolo Blahnik! Jump back Jimmy Choo! There’s a new stiletto in town that has all the hottest Hollywood starlets putting their best foot forward.
French designer Christian Louboutin is all the rage with hot, young Hollywood. Lindsay Lohan, Carmen Electra, Paris and Nicky Hilton swear by his sky high heels with their signature red soles.
This fall, you can look forward to seeing Michelle Trachtenberg, Sienna Miller, and Renee Zellweger walking the red carpet in some of Christian’s sexy strappy sandals in exotic skins and prints, or maybe even some of his hot wedges, peep toes or slides. There are so many to choose from.
Christian says he feels honored when celebrities decide to wear his shoes.
So what makes his footwear so “tres chic?” According to Christian, his shoes empower the women who wear them. In his words, women, especially stars, have an addiction and he is the pusher.
This summer, we saw Jessica Simpson strolling around town in a pair of cream leather closed toe pumps with an adorable sequin T-strap. Could we see her in Christian’s tassel sling peep toe next? Or maybe those sexy mohair peep toes? Ladies, they are hot. Just ask Selma Blair or Hilary Duff, who have been seen in his fun, flirty espadrilles.
Mariah Carey wore a pair of white Louboutin sandals while promoting Venus razors this summer, while Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas got all glam at the 2005 Emmy Awards in her black “Palace” sandals. Gwyneth Paltrow rocked the same shoes on the December ’05 cover of British Vogue.
While Christian prefers women to teeter on 5-inch heels, he does sell ballerina flats and Grecian sandals for those who need to be closer to the ground.
You can find Christian Louboutin shoes at Bergdorf Goodman; Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.
A pair of suede platform sandals or wing tip leopard print wedges at these fine stores will set you back more than 700 bucks. That’s nothing for gals like Sarah Jessica Parker, Dita Von Teese or Ashlee Simpson. But what’s a money challenged fashionista to do? Grab a cheaper version, of course!
Jessica Simpson’s shoe line has a Louboutin inspired style called “Barb.” It even has the cork bottom, something else Christian Louboutin’s shoes are known for. It sells for around 83 dollars on Zappos.com.
Steve Madden also has several knockoffs for about 130 bucks. Still may be a little steep, but it’s a steal compared to the real thing.
Shoe designer, Jeffery Campbell sells a 75-dollar version of the classy Louboutin on Zappos as well… and check this out, it’s got a red sole!
Go on, girl; give Kate Bosworth, Kelly Ripa and the Olsen Twins a run for their fashion money this season.
