How To Have a GREAT First Date!

Fellas, if you're going to take a lady on a date, I'd be inclined to think that you'd want to make a good first impression. From the I'm attracted to her, and eventually want to be her man type of date, to the we're just exchanging ideas type of date, treat a lady like a lady.

First dates can make you nervous. How do you look? Is your cologne too strong? Is your breath in check? Are your glasses straight? Is your car clean and presentable? Here are some tips that can make your first date, great!

  1. Arrive on time. If you're going to be late, a courtesy call is in order. Don't have your date waiting and wondering where the hell you are.
  2. Meet your date at the door, and escort her to the car. (Ring her bell, do not roll up blowing your horn, blasting music, ok?) Be a gentleman and open the door for her. For safety's sake, make sure the two of you fasten your seatbelts.
  3. When you arrive at the restaurant, allow her to decide if she wants an alcoholic beverage or not. If she declines, do not insist. If you're going to get lucky, the alcohol isn't necessary.
  4. While your date is looking at the menu, try not to tell her what she should order, Sure, you can suggest an entree, but don't make her feel as if she's having dinner with the Marquis de sade.
  5. If the waiter asks, "do you want to see the desert menu?" Don't automatically shout "no!" If you can not afford to pay for dinner and dessert, don't ask the lady out. Allow your date to decide for herself if she wants a slice of chocolate chip cheesecake, dripping with fudge sauce, or not.
  6. Unless you're a doctor on-call, turn your cell phone off. If you must be available, put it on vibrate.
  7. Have something to talk about other than yourself. Conversations are an exchange of words between two or more people. Got it?
  8. Do not steer the conversation toward sex. Trust me, that is an ultimate turn-off.
  9. When you return to your date's home, again, open the door for her so she can exit the car. Do not say "I'll call you," if you don't mean it.
  10. If the date went well, you may decide to immediately ask her for a second date. You may also decide to ask her later, the choice is yours. Walk her to the front door, and please, make sure she gets in the house, condo or apartment before you drive away.
