Meet More New People Than Ever Before
By Jeff Cohen, freelance writer (cohenwriting@aol.com)
How often do you think to yourself, “it’s so hard to meet new people” or “where do people in relationships find these great catches.” If your dating life is currently moving in slow motion then this is the article for you. By looking at common activities and interests in a whole new light you can dramatically boost your love life.
Check out these ten ideas and you’ll be on your way to getting off the sidelines and finding your very own Mr. or Mrs. Right.
1. Go to a Book Signing. Okay, it’s easy to go see your favorite author at Barnes and Noble. But is that the same place where you’ll find someone new to date? Why not think about the kinds of books your prospects might read and go to a book signing for one of those authors?
2. Join a Sports League. Sports are a great way to stay in shape and have fun at the same time. But before you sign up for an all-female or all-male league, consider the co-ed option. You can still have fun playing your favorite sport while also meeting a whole slate of new prospects.
3. Take an Aerobics Class. If you’re into the solo workout, more power to you. You will be buff but are you missing the chance to meet someone new? How about an aerobics class mixed into your workout here and there? You’ll still be exercising but just might meet someone of interest.
4. Give Back to the Community. You don’t have to become the next Mother Theresa, but would volunteering once per month really impact your schedule? Choose a group charity event, like cleaning up a park or taking kids to a ballgame. You just might end up giving back to the community while getting back a new partner.
5. Become a Blind Dating Machine. Online dating is a great way to meet lots of new people, but so is the old fashioned setup from friends and family. Start casually mentioning that you’re open to a setup and soon the offers will be rolling in.
6. Consider how your Friends and Family Met Someone. Before you rack your brain on new ways to meet someone think about close relatives and friends who have been successful. What did they do to find their partner? Could you follow their lead too?
7. Double Your Online Dating Presence. If you have an online membership in one of the big sites, say True.com or YahooPersonals, that’s a great start. But why not add one more site based on your unique interests? For example, if you want to meet someone Christian, consider a site like, Where Christians Meet!
8. Join a Summer House or Ski House. This is not the time to sign up for a small house with two of your friends. Convince those friends to join a bigger house that holds 10-15 people. See it as an opportunity to get some sun or hit the slopes while also meeting a new crew of people.
9. Sit Last at the Dinner Table. We’re not talking family dinners here. Instead, think about those work functions or social gatherings you go to. Do you rush for a seat and spend the night next to whoever sits near you? Wait a few seconds and see who sits down. Scan the dinner guests for anyone of interest and sit near them. You’ll be controlling destiny, rather than relying on it.
10. Keep the pipeline alive. If meeting someone new is keeping you up at night then don’t settle for one date every few months. Push yourself a bit and keep the prospects rolling in. You’ll constantly have a slate of interesting people to consider.
