Top 6 Excuses that Keep You Single

While I was searching the site the other night, this guy caught my eye. Cute, well-educated, interesting. Within seconds, though, he'd turned me off.
His average body hadn't spent much overtime at the gym, yet he insisted on dating women who were either thin or athletic. He was 45 years old but only willing to date 18- to 38-year-old women. That excessive ego and superficiality turned my stomach, and I decided to browse other profiles.
Funny. I couldn't have learned that much and that fast at a bar. So with just a click of my mouse, I continued my search for a man with a little more substance.
Fraidy cat?
You're not still afraid to try online dating, are you? Let me guess: You've fallen for one of the six great myths about meeting a match online:
It doesn't seem safe
As opposed to giving your number out after you've had a couple of drinks and five minutes of conversation? It's another world online, where technology enables you to communicate completely anonymously — whether by email, by phone, instant messaging or even video. You call the shots, and you don't provide any of your real contact information until you're ready.
I don't need the help
Right. There's always that blind date with your Aunt Mildred's next-door neighbor. And you know how exciting that night will be.
I meet people all the time
Oh, you want to meet people. I thought you wanted to meet a single guy or girl who's looking to date — and eventually even commit.
People can lie online
Yep. So … do you think a guy who lies online is going to be struck honest when he tries to pick you up at a party? You trust your instincts at the party; you can trust them online, too.
There's no chemistry online
Maybe the real problem is that there's an excess of chemistry offline. That would explain why we keep dating attractive people even though we know they're completely wrong for us. Online you can find out how much you want someone's company without being distracted by how much you want their body. There'll be more than enough time for "chemistry" after you meet.
What will I tell my friends?
Tell them, "Hey, don't be jealous. Try it yourself, and one of these Saturday nights you'll have a date, too."
It's simple, actually. You can keep making excuses…or you can make up your mind to give it a try. There are multiple ways to search for single near you, or you can create a free profile to see who's interested. In either case, act today: Romance could be blocks away!
Now doesn't that sound like more than waiting for Aunt Mildred to call?
